Dobey battles back from brink to deny Rodriguez and set up Van Gerwen clash

The darts is set to return on December 27 with Chris Dobey the final player through to the third round at the 2021/22 PDC World Darts Championship.

This after a monumental comeback which saw Dobey come from the brink at two sets down to defeat Rusty-Jake Rodriguez 3-2 and he will now face Michael van Gerwen in the third round.

Rodriguez led to begin the tie claiming the opening set in a decider after Dobey had previously missed three darts for the set. The Austrian snatched it as a result with an 88 checkout.

Dobey was in real trouble from there as Rodriguez hit a 90 checkout to double his lead in the second set and 'Hollywood' was staring down the barrel at defeat.

He dug deep though from there as he looked to save his World Championship. He sealed the third set 3-1 and recovered from two sets down to level up at 2-2.

Rodriguez looked to regain the impetus with an 80 checkout to gain an immediate break of throw but Dobey cancelled that out by going 2-1 up and one away from the victory.

He claimed it with a 60 checkout to deny the young Austrian in a quality comeback.
