Doets eliminates Van Gerwen; Van Barneveld, Anderson, Wade and Michael Smith among quarter-finalists of Players Championship 22

Kevin Doets has qualified for the quarterfinals of Players Championship 22 at the expense of Michael van Gerwen. Doets shocked his fellow Dutchman with a lethal display of finishing.

Van Gerwen managed to undo an immediate break, but then Doets got ahead 4-2 with another break. Mighty Mike' could not make up that break, leaving Doets with a 6-4 win. A Dutch clash with Christian Kist, who was responsible for the elimination of Stephen Bunting (6-4), awaits Doets in the next round.

Raymond van Barneveld also managed to knock Dimitri van den Bergh out of the tournament after Krzysztof Ratajski. In the deciding leg Van Barneveld hit a 12-darter for the win. He will meet Damon Heta in the last eight. The Heat, seeded first at this tournament, won 6-4 from Nathan Aspinall.

Danny Noppert turned a 3-5 deficit against Steve Lennon into a 6-5 victory. His reward is a meeting with James Wade in the quarterfinals. 'The Machine' sidelined Jules van Dongen 6-5 after a decisive leg.

The final quarterfinal is a clash between two-time world champion Gary Anderson and reigning world champion Michael Smith. They won at the last sixteen over Ricardo Pietreczko (6-0) and Ian White (6-5), respectively.
