Glen Durrant has continued his remarkable run at the World Matchplay on debut with a 16-7 win over the only previous champion left in the event, James Wade to move through to the semi-finals.
It wasn't a brilliant affair with Wade out of sorts for the most part but Durrant still had to do the job and he did that. 'Duzza' sealed the deal in style with a 137 checkout where he hit two double 20's in a real exhibition shot, he will play Michael Smith next up.
Wade started the better of the two moving 3-2 and then 4-3 up on Durrant but from there the Teesside ace started to find his mojo with him hitting three legs on the spin to go 6-4 up at the interval with three 180's and a 94 average.
He continued when he returned smashing in a 107 checkout to extend his lead to 7-4. Wade broke back immediately though with a 7-5 deficit.
Wade missed two darts at doubles and as a result Durrant broke again to go 8-5 up. He went four clear to go 9-5 up and it was now up to Wade to get back into the tie.
Durrant at the third interval was 9-6 up as he continued to have daylight over the Aldershot ace. It was double figures when he returned at 10-6 up. The procession continued with Durrant despite not playing at his best at all punishing a poor Wade to go within two of the victory at 14-6 up.
'Duzza' messed up on doubles allowing Wade in to hold and claw another leg back. Despite that though it didn't last long with Durrant reeling off a 100 checkout as well as a 137 including two double 20's to seal the deal.
