Glen Durrant enjoyed a dream debut at the World Matchplay to round off the second night at the Winter Gardens claiming a comfortable win over Adrian Lewis.
'Duzza' hit a 101 average in an excellent display as he showed why he belongs with the PDC elite; he now sets up a tantalising tie between himself the BDO World Champion and Michael van Gerwen, the PDC World Champion in Round Two.
To start the tie, Lewis took the first leg on throw; but Durrant came back with back to back legs to move 2-1 in front including a break of throw for 'Duzza'. It was three in a row for Durrant as he held the throw with 60 percent on the doubles as he pounced on a poor session from Lewis.
He continued to be in cruise control as he smashed in a 101 checkout to extend his lead to 4-1. Lewis though hit back with a roar and two 180's en route to a brilliant 11 darter and a 4-2 deficit.
Durrant though responded with a 13-darter; to lead by three again at 5-2 up. He broke again to put Lewis in real trouble; with 'Jackpot' squandering multiple darts at double which allowed the three time Lakeside champion to go 7-2 up.
At the break, it was 8-2 to Durrant who at this point was coasting towards a brilliant debut win with a 99 average and 53 percent on the doubles.
His brilliance continued as he edged closer to the finishing line at 9-3 up. Durrant missed a match dart on the bull to break and win and Lewis clawed a leg back. Lewis was left with 138 to break and Durrant claimed the win on debut.
