Glen Durrant is set to take on Adrian Lewis in one of the standout ties of the first round at the 2019 World Matchplay with the draw being completed on Tuesday afternoon.
Durrant who has had a meteoric rise since joining the PDC finds himself in the
World Matchplay after only a few months as a Tour Card holder and he gave his immediate reaction saying that he knew he had to play at the Winter Gardens one day.
He reacted to the draw also and called Lewis one of the legends of the PDC and that it is an incredible draw for him; especially with Michael van Gerwen being in the same section.
‘Adrian Lewis is two times champion of the world, one of the real legends of the PDC,’ Durrant told Sky Sports. ‘He’s 16th seed, incredibly, meaning I’m in the section with Michael van Gerwen as well, so it’s an incredible draw.
‘I’m determined to enjoy myself. Not many people expected me to qualify for the Matchplay this year, so I’m really going to enjoy myself.'
‘I went there last year as a guest. It was just one of them moments that I thought “I’ve got to play here one day.”
‘The tradition, the building itself, the knowledgeable crowd, the heat, which I love. To qualify this year was momentous for me, it was huge and I’m delighted and so excited for next week.’
