Martin Schindler is the new number one on the European Tour Order of Merit. 'The Wall,' who won the final ranking last year, took over the lead position from Nathan Aspinall after winning the Austrian Darts Open in Graz.
It was the third time in over a year that Schindler was the best at a Euro Tour tournament. He successively defeated Matthew Dennant (6-3), Kevin Doets (6-5), Chris Dobey (6-4), Josh Rock (7-6) and Ross Smith (8-4) to claim the top prize of 30,000 pounds.
Schindler earned a total of 50,500 pounds during the first five Euro Tour tournaments of the season. The German has an 8,500-pound lead over Aspinall, who won the European Darts Trophy earlier this season and reached the final at the International Darts Open. Michael van Gerwen and Luke Littler are in shared third place with 38,500 pounds.
Smith moved up to fifth place after his lost final. With 36,500 pounds, he leaves behind Stephen Bunting, Ryan Joyce and Josh Rock, among others. Gian van Veen concludes the top 10. He shares this position with Mike de Decker.
