Gary Anderson reaches milestone of 30 Players Championship titles; only Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen have more

On Monday, Scottish darter Gary Anderson managed to win his 30th Players Championship title at Players Championship 7 of 2025. With this, he solidifies his position as one of the most successful darters in the history of this series of tournaments.
With this victory, Anderson ranks third in the list of players with the most Players Championship titles. Only Phil Taylor (45 titles) and Michael van Gerwen (36 titles) have more. With this, Anderson leaves behind players such as Peter Wright (22 titles), Dave Chisnall (18 titles) and Gerwyn Price (18 titles).
The Scottish darts legend has built an impressive darts career. In addition to his two world titles in 2015 and 2016, he has won numerous other tournaments to his name. His game is known for his smooth throw and high scoring ability, which has made him one of the most dangerous players on the circuit for years.
After Anderson won his 24th Players Championship title in February 2020, "The Flying Scotsman" went through a down period. In 2021 and 2022, Anderson failed to win a single floor tournament to his name. Only in March 2023 came his 25th Players Championship title. He appeared to have the taste again, as Anderson won three floor tournaments in 2023. After two tournament victories in 2024 and now one in 2025, the number reached 30.
Taylor is the all-time leader with 45 Players Championship titles. 'The Power' won his very first Players Championship title in 2003, and his very last in 2015. In 2008, Taylor managed to win no fewer than 11 Players Championship tournaments, an absolute record.
Van Gerwen is currently the second most successful player on the Players Championship circuit with 36 tournament victories. 'Mighty Mike' won his first title in 2009, and his last in 2024. Van Gerwen's most successful Players Championship season dates back to 2012, when he won six of these tournaments.

- Likewise, I have always been a fan of Mervyn and with this worry on his mind, it explains why his form and ranking plummeted. It is really sad to hear this, often chatted to Mervyn and Tracey during the Lakeside days, both are lovely people. It does seem naive not acknowledging the fact it was earnings, surely there must be others in the same situation. - Whatโs with the dogs element to this story, trying to pull at the heart strings? Just goes to show that being a good dart player does not equate to being that bright. Seriously, โI thought you didnโt have to pay tax on winningsโ , your a pro dart player and its your line of work, your not playing the lottery or placing a bet. I think it was Phil Taylor who said you should put a third to one side of all winnings into a bank account, obviously Merv was wearing his earplugs at the time.Mysstree10-03-2025
- The thing is... the folks who "humiliated" Taylor in the Seniors Events never really achieved anything in the important events - like Taylor did. Taylor had/has nothing to prove... and beating Taylor after he had retired is of zero value. Taylor in his prime would have made easy work of all of them. Cheers.MrYnyslas197107-03-2025
