The
German Darts Championship 2024 is scheduled from Friday, August 30, to Sunday, September 1, in Hildesheim. The ninth Euro Tour tournament of the season will see a grand total of £175,000 of
prize money distributed.
A number of players will receive the prize money only in their bank accounts and not added to the world rankings. Indeed, this year 32 players will be automatically invited to the
European Tour events.
First, the top-16 of the Pro Tour Order of Merit will receive an invitation. They have a bye in the first round and enter from the second round. New starting this season is that the top-16 of the overall world ranking list also receive an invitation. They do have to start from the first round. However, for both groups, they must win their opening match at the German Darts Championship in order for the prize money to count toward the world ranking.
The remaining sixteen participants in Hildesheim are winners from the various qualifying tournaments. Regardless of the result these players achieve, they will get the prize money added to the ranking anyway. They will receive at least 1250 pounds in starting money.
Upon reaching the second round, the prize money rises to 2,500 pounds. So the top-16 on the seedings list will get this amount guaranteed, but they still have to win a match to get it added to the world rankings as well. Making it to the third round is good for £4,000, while quarter-finalists go home with £6,000 anyway. Semi-finalists will get at least £8500 before the rewards go into the five numbers for reaching the final. For the runner-up at the German Darts Championship, a sum of 12,000 pounds awaits. The winner of this Euro Tour tournament goes home with £30,000.
The German Darts Championship is one of the oldest Euro Tour tournaments on the darts calendar. The tournament's honours list includes a lot of different names. Michael van Gerwen (2015, 2018 and 2022) is the only player to win the German Darts Championship more than once. Dave Chisnall (2013), Gary Anderson (2014), Alan Norris (2016), Peter Wright (2017), Daryl Gurney (2019) Devon Petersen (2020) and Ricardo Pietreczko (2023) are the other tournament winners. Pietreczko sensationally captured the title in Hildesheim last year. He beat Michael van Gerwen 7-6 in the semifinals before 'Pikachu' settled with Peter Wright (8-4) in the final.
