While the PDC seem to think the current Premier League format is worth keeping, there is the yearly debate about whether or not it should shift to something new with the gripe of many being that by this point it is boring and stale. Gerwyn Price ironically will play at The O2 in two weeks time in the play-offs but has given his thoughts on a potential new format.

Price has been buoyed it seems by playing an exhibition in Leicester known as Armageddon where Nathan Aspinall had a mystery opponent. They uncovered the hood and it was in fact The Iceman and said that it should be adopted in a sort of similar style in the Premier League where no-one knows who they will face and will include upwards of the top 26 in the world getting their chance.
The Welshman said that there will be 16 players in total and during every Premier League night, a new challenger appears and the winner stays on. The winner then gets a belt like WWE, prize money and a spot in next year's Premier League.
But while it may seem like pie in the sky for some, Price said that also a change to the main format, which is perhaps a bit easier to implement, and that is to go back to the 10 format of before, where players all play one game a night.
"My thoughts on what I think would be a good idea for a new Premier League format. Back to the old format of 10 players all playing one game per night," said Price on Facebook.
"After 9 weeks, the bottom two drop out like in previous years and go into the format of the last few years. 8 players into a 1/4 final and play down to a winner. The twist and added excitement would be a Royal Rumble-style game added on each Premier League night, 16 players in total for this, and play each Premier League night in between Premier League games 2 or 3, the winner stays on for the next week, and nobody knows who the surprise challenger will be each week.
Gerwyn Price looks on.

"The Royal Rumble winner after the full 16 weeks gets the belt, prize money, and a space in the following year's Premier League.
"The Royal Rumble challengers would be the top eight from the one-year order of merit and 8 highest ranked players on the one-year order of merit outside the Premier League selected players.
"Walk-ons for the Royal Rumble players would be a bit like this in the video. So 26 of the world's best all being involved."
The issue that many have had with this year's Premier League has, in fact, been that the same matches get repeated constantly, and when Littler, Humphries, and even Price play most of the World Series too, we then get the carryover of players from the Premier League also duking it out in World Series action too, immediately after The O2.
So instead of this big fight feeling like boxing, it means that fans are oversaturated with this type of tie, and going back to the old format seems to be devised to cut the number of games that the big names face off in. Albeit the PDC has often said through Chief Executive Matt Porter that it is done due to the fact that the fans want to see a winner. But then again, does that pass muster when the tickets sell out months in advance?
