The entire world elite had registered for the
Belgian Darts Open, but on the day before the Euro Tour event in Wieze gets underway, it has emerged that three global stars have withdrawn.
Gian van Veen is one of the three withdrawals. His pullout does not come as a surprise. “GVV The Giant” is
already set to miss Thursday night’s Premier League evening in Dublin after being admitted to hospital with kidney stones. Van Veen would not have been in action at the Belgian Darts Open until Saturday, but it is already clear he will not be fit in time.
Gary Anderson and
Gerwyn Price have also decided not to make the trip to Wieze, and that should not be a surprise either. Anderson is known for regularly skipping Euro Tour events. Price hinted last week at taking a break due to mental fatigue. “The Iceman” will still appear on Thursday night during the seventh night of Premier League Darts, but will then take the weekend off.
In line with PDC regulations, the PDC has called up replacements for the Belgian Darts Open. These are the three highest-ranked players from the losers’ round at the Tour Card Holder Qualifier. After all the losing players were listed, Ricky Evans, Mickey Mansell, and Ian White turned out to be the three lucky ones.
