Gerwyn Price reveled in successive successes on a high-quality Players Championship weekend in Barnsley.
The Welsh ace became the 13th player in PDC history to win two Players Championship events in one weekend. He breezed past the likes of Josh Payne, Adrian Lewis and Nathan Aspinall to reach the Players Championship 6 final, before beating Ricky Evans 8-4 to take the title. While he didn't reach the heights of previous performances in the day, such as a 112.7 average against Zoran Lerchbacher, a strong showing was capped by an excellent 170 finish in the final leg. Speaking after that win, Price felt vindicated by the level of performance he had put in. "This weekend I proved to myself and a lot of people that I can play top quality darts," the Iceman told pdc.tv. "It's all a case of having confidence in myself, believing in my ability. I think I played phenomenally well all day. "I'm happy with my consistency over the weekend. I couldn't have asked for a better way to win it than with a 170. "Hopefully now I can carry this form into the Premier League and I can keep performing to this standard and win another TV title along the way." Price is unbeaten in the Premier League after three games. He faces home favourite and 'contender' Luke Humphries in Exeter on Thursday, before entering the UK Open at the fourth round stage.
