Day Two of the Gibraltar Darts Trophy is here with two bumper sessions set to take place to help determine the line-up for the final day at the Rock.
The afternoon session kicks it all off with Nathan Aspinall, the UK Open champion in a tough test against Ryan Joyce. 'Relentless' played well yesterday including missing the nine-dart finish and is a player to potentially watch this weekend, a potential shock on the cards.
James Wade then takes on Paul Rowley. A five time winner on the tour this year but hasn't had a
European Tour triumph in three years; it was five years since he won at the Victoria Stadium, can the Machine produce the goods again? He will have to first defeat Paul Rowley who showed himself to be a tricky customer yesterday against Ryan Meikle.
Then Krzysztof Ratajski against Steve Beaton takes place in one of the standout ties of the day. Beaton saw off Tony Newell in a quality contest yesterday afternoon and he will hope for the same today against Ratajski who is of course one of the most consistent players on the European Tour. Potential fireworks expected in this tie if both players are on form.
Jonny Clayton showed his form at the recent Players Championship double header looking imperious for the most part without his reward, he will hope for that reward when he takes on Kim Huybrechts in a battle of former European Tour winners.
Another tie of the day in many ways is Rob Cross against Krzysztof Kciuk. Kciuk has shown the ability to mix it up including yesterday against Kirk Shepherd and he will hope to bring that form into a tie with 'Voltage' who if his stats from the latest Players Championship events are to go by is towards his best. Can he bring that out on the Gibraltar stage or will he be stopped by the Thumb.
Daryl Gurney against Carl Wilkinson follows that. 'Superchin' should have no problems in getting through this one but will have to be wary; Wilkinson edged past 17-year old Justin Hewitt yesterday and said afterwards that he was nervous due to having to face the home hero so it should be interesting to see if he can give the Northern Irishman a scare.
The final two ties are ones to look forward to also in Dave Chisnall against Jeffrey de Zwaan and Michael Smith versus Danny Noppert.
Both ties are set to be fast and potentially high quality and in the case of Smith against Noppert, it could be a nervy one with both trying to join the line-up for Gottingen, can 'Bully Boy' make a last minute surge?
