The one-off event that brings PDC and BDO stars together has typically been held at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall. But the Grand Slam will now have to move, with the Civic Hall set for renovations.
"Significant repairs" are needed at the Grade II listed building, according to the Wolverhampton City Council. A £38 million revamp of the venue is expected to take two years to complete. One of the high-profile events affected by the decision is the Grand Slam. The tournament is not expected to move far, with the 2018 and 2019 editions still set to be held in Wolverhampton. However, Wolverhampton City Council are as of yet unable to name any potential new sites.
Michael van Gerwen claimed the title in 2017, defeating Peter Wright 16-12 in the final.
