Gurney cruises to whitewash win over Veenstra, Wright edges past debutant Warren

Daryl Gurney and Peter Wright have claimed the next points on the board at the Grand Slam of Darts meaning the shocks have been kept to a minimum as such so far.

Gurney defeated Richard Veenstra, the first representative of the BDO but as 'Superchin' said afterwards, both were blighted by being cold on the stage and he took advantage of that in a whitewash win.

Wright on the other hand edged past Wayne Warren in a 5-2 win with a 98 average as he saw off the BDO debutant who impressed at times but just wasn't able to find the consistency of 'Snakebite'.

Gurney started proceedings going into a 3-0 lead over Veenstra who despite his nickname did not fly out of the traps.

He went one away from there pinning double six with a 4-0 lead as he put his average up to 91 compared to the Dutchman's 72. 'Superchin' went onto claim victory from there and despite it not being his best performance, he will be glad of the points.

Wright was once again playing with new darts which looked like Phil Taylor Target Darts, Warren started well though claiming a break of throw on double 16.

'Snakebite' though claimed an immediate break of throw back from there. Warren though replied with an excellent 129 to make it 2-2.

Warren though started to fade and Wright got more consistent from there was barely troubled as he claimed a 5-2 victory over the Welshman who looked good in spells but just couldn't find a way to get near the impressive 'Snakebite'.
