Gurney latest to fall victim to no. 24 seed curse at PDC World Darts Championship with Soutar defeat

Daryl Gurney lost out in the second round at the 2022/23 PDC World Darts Championship but there is more to it with DartsTracker confirming his No.24 seed as the most cursed from 2006 onwards with ten first match darts.

Last year, it was Glen Durrant and before that there have been spells where players have fallen with Jelle Klaasen the latest before that in 2019 as well as back in 2010 with a run from 2006 onwards to 2011 of it happening every year.

Colin Lloyd was in the gap between then in 2014 but barring that, no-one suffered the curse until the past two years as the streak resumes. It also is the first World Championship with the fewest seeds going out with not many shocks to begin the tournament barring Gurney and most notably James Wade.
