Daryl Gurney lost out in the second round at the 2022/23 PDC World Darts Championship but there is more to it with DartsTracker confirming his No.24 seed as the most cursed from 2006 onwards with ten first match darts.

Last year, it was Glen Durrant and before that there have been spells where players have fallen with Jelle Klaasen the latest before that in 2019 as well as back in 2010 with a run from 2006 onwards to 2011 of it happening every year.

Colin Lloyd was in the gap between then in 2014 but barring that, no-one suffered the curse until the past two years as the streak resumes. It also is the first World Championship with the fewest seeds going out with not many shocks to begin the tournament barring Gurney and most notably James Wade.

The most cursed seed over this period is the No.24 seed with 10 1st match defeats: 2006: Alan Caves 2007: Alan Warrener-Little 2008: Wes Newton 2009: Andy Jenkins 2010: Jelle Klaasen 2011: Steve Beaton 2014: Colin Lloyd 2019: Jelle Klaasen 2022: Glen Durrant 2023: Daryl Gurney
