Gurney survives O'Connor fightback to move into PDC World Championship Third Round

Daryl Gurney is through to the Third Round of the 2020/21 PDC World Darts Championship after surviving a comeback from William O'Connor to win 3-2 in sets.

O'Connor came from 2-0 down to force a decider but Gurney who throughout the tie showed glimmers of his old form prevailed in the end with a 99 average and five 180's.

He began with a brilliant first set claiming it 3-1 with two 180's and a 101.6 average to go 1-0 up.

Following that, Gurney began to make his mark as he smashed in a 121 checkout on the bull to take the first leg and followed that up with an 80 checkout to double his lead in set two. All of this was with a 106.7 average and it was wrapped up in consecutive legs from there as he doubled his lead.

O'Connor though began to battle and snatched the third set in a decider to halve the deficit and ask the question of 'Superchin'.

This was further asked as O'Connor made it 2-2 and sent it all the way to a deciding set. But a pivotal missed dart at double 16 from O'Connor gave Gurney a break to lead in the decider.

He pinned a 62 checkout for a 14-darter to double his lead and O'Connor missed three at double 20 to get back into the set and Gurney wasn't going to miss the opportunity as he pinned double eight for victory.
