Leonard Gates prevailed against Cameron Menzies amid a backdrop of noise and distress as the Scot was in tears afterwards as his World Darts Championship campaign came to a shuddering halt.
Next up is Nathan Aspinall and 'Soulger' quipped that the monster is coming. Menzies later confirmed on social media that he has been having some issues away from the oche that are more important and perhaps was more of the issue for him than a vociferous crowd who cheered his mistakes.

"It's a wonderful feeling definitely to come back and get through my first round so I can keep going to see what I can do in the next round or the next round after that. it's an amazing feeling right now," said Gates post match.
"The energy is the same, it's possibly even more than when I was here last time. It's phenomenal. I've improved massively as just tonight doesn't show what I've done in the States. I'm on a roll, everyone is telling me I'm on a roll. I want to keep it that way like a snowball rolling down a hill, it builds it builds."
"Nathan (Aspinall) has the backing and love from the fans. But the monster is coming."
He gave Menzies some words of encouragement at the end and said that he needs to figure out what he needs but that he hopes he gave him some confidence.
"For a second I said just play the game, don't get involved in the negativity that someone is cheering against you. Just stay focused on what you're doing and go forward. I'd use that energy because if you play your darts and you hit what needs to be hit, trust me the crowd will keep quiet."
"I hope I said some things to him that will help him in his game. Personally as in life also. He has to figure out what it is with him if he needs more help but hopefully I said something that will build his confidence and keep his game going."
Born to entertain, he said that he has the moves that Wright and Buntz don't which puts himself ahead.
"If I can come over from the States and be on a big stage like that I'm going to start wearing glitter clothes and do more dances. They've got their little shine (Wright and Buntz) but they haven't got the moves though."]
