“He walked in the backroom and knocked my drink completely off the table” – Darren Webster reveals notable incident with a rival

Darren Webster has lifted the lid on a striking incident from his darts career. The former PDC pro explains how an opponent, unable to handle a painful defeat, lashed out and slapped Webster’s drink off the table. The Englishman refuses to name the player, but makes clear he had little sympathy for the behaviour.

Now 58, Webster shared the story during his appearance in the MODUS Super Series. ‘The Demolition Man’ stressed he prefers to settle player disputes on the oche.

“Like I said, I don’t want to go too far into it, but another thing with darts for me as well, and I am mentioning no names,” Webster began cautiously. He then decided to describe what happened at the time.

“What people don’t realise is I beat a certain person to get through to that week,” said Webster. “Once I beat him, he then could not qualify. He literally walked in the backroom and knocked my drink completely off the table and then walked out the building.”

For Webster, the incident ended there. He had no interest in escalating the confrontation. “He has gone. I am not interested anymore. But then you get something like that and you think, hold on a minute, come on.”

According to the Englishman, darts should ultimately be about what two players produce on stage. “Just get up there and throw your darts. Let’s see who wins. That is all I ever do. I just walk up there, let the best man win.”

Webster tries to keep that mindset even in defeat. “If I go up there tonight and someone beat me, I put my hands up and say well done because you have to get yourself back up there.”

Webster is also irritated by players who let an opponent’s style affect them. In that context he mentions Justin Pipe, known throughout his PDC career for a notably slow throw.

“When people stop you doing that, people say, ‘Oh no, that’s his game, that’s their game.’ But I ain’t,” Webster continued. “I played Justin Pipe and people moan at him, and I’ve never moaned at Justin once because he throws his darts slow.”

Webster also insists Pipe never exploited his slow tempo to disrupt opponents. “But he walks to the board, gets his darts and he don’t hold you up or nothing. He is a slow player, that is how he plays.”

Webster enjoyed a long successful spell on the PDC circuit. The Englishman won a ProTour title and reached the semi-finals at the Players Championship Finals.

His time as a Tour Card holder ended in 2024. After a dip in form and results, ‘The Demolition Man’ lost his place on the professional tour.
