Hempel after dumping out fifth seed Van den Bergh: "I'm a good player too so it's not important what World Number he is"

Florian Hempel is into the Last 32 on his PDC World Darts Championship debut after an incredible display to down Dimitri van den Bergh, the fifth seed with the German setting up a clash with Raymond Smith in an open section of the draw.

Hempel spoke afterwards and admitted he doesn't care about reputations or the current status of a player in the Order of Merit and that he is there to win too.

"He's a fantastic player. I'm a good player too so it's not important what World Number he is. I went there to win the game and I won," said Hempel post match.

"This year I won my Tour Card, the first half of the year I can't play any tournaments. I start in July, I qualified for the World Championship and now I'm in Round Three, it's unbelievable."

He will now spend Christmas over in the UK which he admits is difficult but is here with his compatriot, Gabriel Clemens.

"I'm here with Gabriel Clemens. I hope he will win his game on Thursday so I hope we will have a great Christmas together."
