Hempel targeting World Cup of Darts debut: "It's a long way to go but the chance is there"

Florian Hempel produced a brilliant victory over Martin Schindler seeing off his fellow German 3-0 on his PDC World Darts Championship debut.

Hempel spoke afterwards and was glad to get through the first hurdle against a close friend and also revealed his next target.

"I'm really happy about this win. I played against a friend so my thoughts first are with Martin, it wasn't an easy game for us but I'm happy to win this game. The 156 for the first set was really important," said Hempel post match.

"My target next is at the end of next year is to climb in the top 64, to hold the Tour Card one year more."

One of those targets is to play in the World Cup of Darts with a potential spot on the line if his brilliance continues.

"Why not, it's a long way to go but the chance is there."
