Damon Heta bypassed a tricky cliff in the opening round of the
World Matchplay. The 14th-seeded Australian defeated
Josh Rock 10-5.
Heta immediately turned the crowd against him as he came on stage in an Ashes themed, Australian attire complete with cricket bat and cap. "I just appreciate the fact that the crowd could see it was banter," said 'The Heat.' "I knew what was coming and I just played on it."
However, he was not entirely satisfied after the victory, beung especially annoyed at the underdog tag given to him going into the match. "Man I've won 2 pro tours, I'm doing well on the Euro Tour and I'm not even favourite. I don't know what he's won this year. It's just fuel for the fire."
In the next round, Heta will take on Brendan Dolan, who very surprisingly sent Michael van Gerwen home. "I really want to get far at this tournament and why not win, I'm playing well and the confidence is definitely there," Heta said.
