Previously a figure at the BDO World Darts Championship, James Hurrell is the latest to tread the path of the PDC World Darts Championship and to superb effect against Jim Long.
Hurrell showed his big stage brilliance by seeing off the Canadian in a hammering. A game expected to be close, it was anything but as Hurrell wasted no time in sealing a clash with Michael van Gerwen.
It was a dream start for Hillbilly as he surged through the opening set 3-0 with his doubling which was a theme throughout standing out. He pinned a high of 120 with 75% on the outer ring. This excellence continued as he made it 6 legs from 7 doubling his set lead.
Long had no answer to his prowess as Hurrell went 2-0 up and eased towards the finish from there. More misses continued to blight Long as he missed darts in most legs to finish it off.
Hurrell was there everytime to mop up easing through against the Canadian in a 3-0 last set. What was seen on paper as a supremely difficult close grueller was anything but. If Hurrell continues this and MvG is off colour as he has been this year, it could be a tough tie for the three time World Champion.
Next up is Noa-Lynn van Leuven making her World Championship debut. An all Dutch derby awaits with Kevin Doets, the winner faces Michael Smith for a spot in the third round.
