Home heroes Germany ease into Last 16 of World Cup of Darts, joined by Canada and France

The Last 16 is closing in on being set with home heroes Germany set to be one of the main countries England, Scotland, Netherlands and Wales will look to avoid at the World Cup of Darts.

It was eight legs without reply since their last match for the duo of Gabriel Clemens and Martin Schindler who showed excellent team cohesion once more to see off Japanese duo Tamaya Goto and Jan Matsuda 4-0.

Amid a backdrop of vocal support, they doubled their lead early on with Clemens missing double 20 for a superb 145 and Schindler mopping up double 20 after Matsuda missed double seven.

A last dart double eight saw Clemens go one away. It was 'The German Giant' who had the first chance to win it for the country but he missed three darts.

Matsuda couldn't respond and Schindler took the win with both players super fired up on the stage and sending the crowd into raptures. Could they finally bring home glory this year?

Canada ones to watch? and France ease past Ukraine

Another team to watch could be Canada with Jeff Smith in particular in superb form finishing wise at the moment after his confidence boosting Madison Square Garden final run.

Teaming with the top player now for Canada in Matt Campbell, they saw off Hungary with relative ease. They have previously talked up their chances but now get the chance to face and shock the bigger names.

Kovacs missed a dart at double 20 for an opening break for Hungary and finishing machine Smith hit 93 for 1-0. A 126 on the bull from Campbell saw him get in on the act to make it 2-0.

Smith again was ruthless hitting double four for 3-0. He missed two darts this time to seal the win and Kovacs hit double 18 to hold and make it 3-1. ‘The Silencer’ finally sent them through on double 20.

Also through are France who impressed in their opener and it was simply a formality as they saw off Ukraine with Jacques Labre and Thibault Tricole on their debut as a team joining Germany and Canada in the hat after the final two games.
