The
World Matchplay Darts is set to take place between 19-27 July, 2025 at the historic Winter Gardens in Blackpool. It sees
Luke Humphries as defending champion aiming to regain another ÂŁ200,000 this time around.
Humphries scooped the title seen as the second biggest in darts last year by defeating
Michael van Gerwen in the final. Both will return this year alongside World Champion,
Luke Littler.
Littler will be favourite for the title despite going out round one last year albeit he did go out in the first round to a certain Michael van Gerwen who went on to reach the final. At the time Littler was not in the top 10 so had to rely on the ProTour meaning as expected he faced a big name to open up.
Stephen Bunting, Chris Dobey, Gerwyn Price, Nathan Aspinall, Rob Cross, Gary Anderson and Peter Wright also lead the contingent on offer at the Winter Gardens. Cameron Menzies and Wessel Nijman make their debut.

The amounts will change next year in line with the across the board
prize money increase due to the World Darts Championship becoming ÂŁ1m for the winner.
But for now, the World Matchplay remains the same with ÂŁ800,000 being shared amongst the field. The winner scoops ÂŁ200,000.
While in MVG's case as runner-up last year, he claimed ÂŁ100,000. Semi-Finalists are set to receive ÂŁ50,000, while for reaching the Quarter-Finals it is ÂŁ30,000.
Second round seals ÂŁ15,000, while losing in the first round nets ÂŁ10,000. This will be added to the respective ranking of players at the end of the tournament.
Next year, it will expand to have a ÂŁ1m prize fund albeit the breakdown has yet to be confirmed but the overall PDC Tour will now be set for ÂŁ7m overall in prize money so this will invoke the clamour even more for spots at the prestigious event. As well as winning the Phil Taylor Trophy, it also gleams a lot of ranking money.
