Humphries eases past Lukeman to seal maiden European Tour title at German Darts Grand Prix

Luke Humphries started the year without a PDC ranking title but now he has doubled his tally with a maiden European Tour crown at the German Darts Grand Prix in Munich.

After thrashing Michael van Gerwen in a whitewash win in the semi-finals, he dealt with Martin Lukeman with ease 8-2 with a 92 average and three 180's.

'Smash' tried to slow the game down but wasn't allowed to get into his rhythm as a result and paid the price.

But he will take solace in a weekend which sees him almost certainly qualified for the European Championship and in a superb position for the World Matchplay.

While for 'Cool Hand Luke', it is another notch on the title tally for one of the top talents in the world of darts finally fulfilling his potential. He joins Van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price as winners so far this season on the European Tour.

Humphries pinned double four to lead 1-0 with a break of throw as he looked to continue from his Van Gerwen dominance. He missed 107 to consolidate but Lukeman left a bogey number which allowed Humphries to double his lead on double four again.

Humphries was down to a finish first on Lukeman’s throw but missed 96 and three at double nine for another break and Lukeman second time around hit double 10 to make it 2-1.

He pressured the Humphries throw but the Newbury ace hit double 18 to maintain the two leg cushion at 3-1.

Lukeman missed two double 20’s for a 134 but returned with Humphries missing the same target for 118 and made it 3-2.

A 180 and double 10 saw Humphries hold again to make it 4-2. Lukeman missed chances to hold and Humphries hit double two to double break and make it 5-2.

Humphries missed double 20 for a 122 but Lukeman couldn’t hit 160 which allowed ‘Cool Hand’ to hit double 10 and make it 6-2.

A 72 checkout saw Humphries make it four legs on the spin and go one away from the title. Humphries missed 118 for the match but returned only to miss two more darts.

Lukeman returned aiming at 78 but missed double 20 to keep himself in the tie and Humphries hit double four again to seal the title.
