Luke Humphries and Mike de Decker have completed the second round line-up at the 2024 European Championship and will return on Saturday after wins over Nathan Aspinall and Josh Rock.
It was two supreme displays from the last pair to contest a major final just two weeks ago with Humphries who dominated in Prague superbly taking apart 'The Asp' in some style. He continues to show why he is the best player on the planet right now.
He averaged 106.49 in blowing him away with seven 180's to boot in a 6-2 win. Carrying on where he left off in Prague unlike Luke Littler who was dumped out earlier by Andrew Gilding.
Humphries started to flick on the afterburners at 2-1 with a 122 checkout. A 180 and 60 checkout for an 11-darter to go 3-1 up followed by a 12-dart 41 checkout for 4-1 saw him romping towards the finishing line.
This was cemented with a wonderful 152 checkout for 5-1. Aspinall got a leg back but Humphries pinned double 10 to seal the win and snuff out any sense of a comeback.
While De Decker who is in his first major as a champion showed exactly why he is thus by thrashing an out of sorts Josh Rock 6-1 to complete the second round line-up in Dortmund.
He started in style with a 90 checkout for 1-0 and after missed chances from Rock, he surged into a 2-0 lead. Rock sat at 1/1 on the doubles as he couldn't produce the power scoring of his opponent who hit four 180's despite missing 12 darts at double. He hit a 80 checkout for 4-1 before sealing the hammer blow. he went one away with a 60 checkout and hit double four for the win 6-1.
