Kim Huybrechts recovered to see off Steve Beaton despite missing 36 missed darts at doubles en route at the 2021/22 PDC
World Darts Championship.
Huybrechts of course as a result was not pleased with his display despite moving through to a tie with Gerwyn Price now.
"I think it's one of the worst games I've ever played at Ally Pally and it hurts me because I was playing really good in the last couple of months. Practice was going really good with Martijn Kleermaker but my game didn't reflect like my practicing was going at all," said Huybrechts post match.
It was well documented in the run-up that Huybrechts had a real ordeal to make it over to the UK which he documented with France in particular treating him 'like a gangster'.
"It was a nightmare. I was handled like I was a gangster when I was at the French border. I want to say to them treat me like a gangster, I'm in England. He said to me you're not going to the UK."
"If my friend would have been as calm as me, I would have been in prison probably by now. We were treated horrible. I was worried, for me to London is four hours and I did halfway and they suddenly say you have to go back."
"I phoned my manager and they booked me a flight straight away. The flight was delayed, I said to my friend I just want to get to England. We waited three hours for our case at Heathrow. I left 7am in the morning and after 12pm, I wasn't even in the hotel."
Sherrock
A lot was made especially in this section of the draw about Fallon Sherrock and Huybrechts got honest on the Milton Keynes ace and the hype around her which has been built.
"I predicted that Steve would win. It's difficult and I'm going to get a lot of responses to this, I think the Fallon Sherrock hype is getting a bit too much. She's really good and she deserves where she is at the moment but there was no respect for Steve or the next player. It was Sherrock against Gerwyn Price in the next round and she was going to get Premier League and a Tour Card here.
"She's not unbeatable. Let the girl be who she wants to be because she's got a lot of pressure now for a Tour Card for Q-School and I think the media and everything is getting too big for her as well. Let her play darts and do what she's good at."
Also he spoke on the golden question of would he include her in the Premier League.
"Does she deserve it? I don't think so. Because there are a whole lot of players that have done a lot of better tournaments and they never got Premier League. Box office wise and tickets wise? 100% but for the players no."
