"I actually know I can be better than them": Peter Wright gunning for Luke Littler and Luke Humphries, predicts Barney shock

Peter Wright is gunning for Luke Humphries and Luke Littler's darting crowns firing a message to the sports leading duo after defeating Wesley Plaisier at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship.

Whilst not at his best, it was a confidence booster for Wright with many seeing him as being under threat for his career continuing. But he remains bullish with that glint in his eye that things can and will change.

"I've missed you all, all these interviews when you win games I've really missed it. I was in control and then I just lost it. It was down to the guys who play music at the break, they were playing Angels by Robbie Williams and I love the song. Heard my daughter singing that for the first time (in my head) and I just lost it. But I eventually got over the line and that's all that counts," said Wright.

"The crowd got me through that match. For some reason they were singing Scotland get battered but they were behind me. They wanted me to win for some reason. It did spur me on."

"Hopefully class is permanent, form is temporary. Hopefully his (Wattimena)'s form is temporary and after Christmas he comes back and plays rubbish. It's nice to see Jermaine play some fantastic darts, I'm happy for him. I've got to step up loads to compete with him."

A poor year for Wright but he remains bullish.

He said that he has given out all the presents this year and that Littler, Humphries and also Gary Anderson spur him on to get better.

"It's annoying. This year I gave out all my presents, all the people that beat me it's only down to me own self why they beat me. They've had their presents and you ain't having no more presents. You've had them."

"Luke Humphries and Luke Littler drive me on as I know I can still compete with them. I actually know I can be better than them. Gary (Anderson) spurs me on as well. These little old guys can still do it. I believe Barney will beat Luke (Humphries) and then me and Barney will have the best game ever you've seen on that stage. Barney get your finger out."

"I believe that I've got the game. My practice was better when I won it and I told you I was going to come and win it. That's how I feel and I just played absolutely rubbish up there but I'm through to after Christmas and that's all that counts."

"I'm ready to upset Luke Littler and Luke Humphries. The best side of the competition is not my side, it's the other side. You've got the champions on that side, I think one guy who will do well is Michael Smith. He's going to be a danger."
