"I can't believe it!" - Luke Littler (17) makes history as youngest ever PDC World Darts Championship winner

History has been made! Luke Littler has become the youngest world champion in the history of darts after demolishing Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the final of the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship at the Alexandra Palace.

A truly dominant performance, Littler raced into a 4-0 lead early on and although 'Mighty Mike' did eventually get himself into the contest and pull three sets back, the truth is that Littler's inevitable title win never really looked in danger. Moments after he pinned double 16 to crown himself champion of the world, an emotional Littler spoke to Sky Sports reporter Abigail Davies to give his immediate reaction.

"I can't believe it! Honestly, I can't believe it," began the beaming 17-year-old darting sensation. "We both played so well. I said in my interviews, I needed to get off to a quick start and that's what I did. Michael was behind me the whole game. Those cover shots, when he would hit two trebles and I had to come back with two or three, he was right behind me the whole way through. Everyone dreams of lifting this trophy but you have to get through a tough field."

Although he may be only 17-year-old, and only in his second PDC World Darts Championship, Littler has no shortage of big-stage experience. Prior to the final, he said how he "knew what he did wrong" in last year's final defeat and post-match, he again alluded to his fairytale run on debut as giving him the required experience needed to take the next step this time around.

"I've learned a lot. Last year in the semi-finals against Rob Cross, that was the first time I was 1-0 down, then obviously against Luke [Humphries]," he explains. "No one will know this but earlier today I watched all of the game back against Luke [Humphries] and I had the visions."

So going into the 2025 season ad world champion, there seems to be nothing in Littler's way. "Anything could happen! I could end 2025 winning absolutely nothing but I picked up the best trophy," he previews. "I want to get more than 10 titles this year but if I end 2025 with nothing, I've picked the big one up."
