"I couldn't control them, so I switched" - Simon Whitlock's darts don't last long but Peter Wright edges through at German Darts Championship

Peter Wright continues to show signs of arresting his slide down the rankings in recent weeks. After some positive showings Down Under on the World Series, 'Snakebite' is through to the third round at the 2024 German Darts Championship.

A match perhaps he wouldn't have won six months ago, Wright edged out Stephen Bunting in a thrilling last leg decider on Saturday night, keeping his hopes of European Tour glory alive in Hildesheim.

"Stephen has been playing fantastic darts. He's the Masters champion and he's playing super darts at the moment so I owed him that one," Wright joked on stage after the match. "Nah I love Stephen to bits and he's got a baby on the way too so I wish him all the best."

In his first round match, Wright borrowed Simon Whitlock's darts and was fairly impressive. Nevertheless, during the match against Bunting the Scot switched to another, different set of darts. "I think it was just the heat up there, it was too much. I couldn't control them, so I switched and I was lucky," he explains, also paying thanks to the German support he received in Hildesheim. "These guys got right behind me and I really appreciate it!"
