Danny Noppert had another disappointing performance at the PDC World Darts Championship on Saturday. 'The Freeze' started his match against Ryan Joyce strongly, but eventually had to acknowledge his superiority to Ryan Joyce 3-1 in sets.

It was the seventh time 'The Freeze' has competed at Alexandra Palace. In his six previous participations, Noppert did not make it to the last sixteen once, which is actually a strange statistic for a player who has been consistently in and amongst the top-16 of the world rankings for the last few years.

"This year I performed well and steadily. I'm proud of that. But then you want to confirm that at the World Championship. I don't know what it is with me and World Championships. I feel comfortable here in itself. But I'm no Michael van Gerwen," Noppert said in a first reaction afterwards.

According to Noppert, there was no need to lose this match. "I played too sloppy and I was judged on that. I didn't need to lose this match. I missed way too many doubles, they let me down. Scoring was good," said the Dutch number two.

"If I had performed well this World Championship, who knows what could have happened. If I had ever wanted to make it to the Premier League again... But with two young children, that's tough. On the other hand, when I won the UK Open two years ago and was seventh in the world rankings, I wasn't invited to it either. I may not be a player people like to see there," Noppert draws a peculiar conclusion.
