“I had to work really hard for that" - Van Gerwen survives scare to battle past O'Connor at the World Series of Darts Finals

Michael van Gerwen has struggled into the quarter-finals of the World Series of Darts Finals. 'Mighty Mike' was a 6-4 winner over William O'Connor in the second round.

Van Gerwen had to come back from a 3-0 deficit. “I had to work really hard for that,” Van Gerwen admitted post-match. “I made too many mistakes early on, and I think William played really well in the beginning of the game. Fair play to him, but I had a lovely 161 finish at the right moment."

Averaging 93, the 34-year-old Dutchman was far from his best and therefore remains realistic. “I made it difficult for myself, but the most important thing is that I won, and now I need to focus on tomorrow, because I still have a lot of work to do.”
