Dutch darts analyst and former professional Jerry Hendriks has made his return to TV screens with Viaplay after a challenging four-month spell on the sidelines.

He has struggled with persistent physical issues since the World Darts Championship, at one stage finding it almost impossible to stand for more than a few minutes. Now, there are encouraging signs that he is on the way back, both in the studio and potentially on the oche.

Four months of uncertainty and pain

Speaking candidly about his situation, Hendriks revealed just how debilitating the problem had become. “I could still sit on a stool or chair, but as soon as I stood for a few minutes, I would be in a huge amount of pain within minutes. Then I couldn’t do anything.”
Despite undergoing several medical examinations, no clear diagnosis was found. A herniated disc was ruled out, yet the pain continued for months.
Those physical struggles brought his playing ambitions to a halt. His attempt to regain a PDC Tour Card at Q-School proved unsuccessful, while competing on the Challenge Tour was not an option. “I really doubted whether I even wanted to play, because it just wasn’t possible. This wouldn’t have been sustainable in the long term.”
Hendriks went as far as to describe the period as a “lost year”, with even travelling to England for events out of the question. “I just couldn’t see it anymore. It wasn’t realistic to perform.”

Back on the oche and in the studio

There has, however, been a gradual turnaround since mid-February. His back issues have eased, allowing him to slowly resume movement and training. “By mid-February my back started to improve a bit, and it would just take some time.”
That progress has brought renewed optimism. Hendriks is now able to throw pain-free again and has already resumed his analyst duties, offering insight during broadcasts such as the Premier League Darts.

While his match sharpness will take time to rebuild, the immediate focus is clear: recovery, rhythm, and a steady return to competition. For now, he is balancing both roles, continuing his work on television while looking to rediscover his level in smaller events.

After months dominated by uncertainty, Hendriks is finally moving forward again. The next phase will determine whether that progress leads to a full playing comeback, or a longer-term future in front of the camera.
