Luke Littler is through to the PDC World Darts Championship for the second year in a row. The 17-year-old Englishman beat Stephen Bunting 6-1 in the semifinals and will now face Michael van Gerwen, with the right to lift the Sid Waddell Trophy on the line.

In truth, Littler had little trouble with Bunting in his semifinal and so, at just 17 years of age, may already be gearing up for a second World Championship final. "Everyone else is looking forward to it more than I am, but if I win seven sets I will be happy," says Littler honestly in his post-match press conference. "Michael has been in numerous finals, this is my second, I know where I went wrong last year and I am sure I will fix it."

Littler's final with Van Gerwen has an air of when the mighty Dutchman faced off against Phil Taylor for the title back in 2013. On that occasion, experience proved key as Taylor pushed back Van Gerwen in one of the great PDC World Darts Championship finals. "It will mean everything, if I win seven sets I’ll be over the moon. I can’t wait to get on stage," Littler says. "It’s the stuff of dreams, everyone wants to pick up a trophy, but you have to be at the top of your game to do it."

Despite the huge prize money and, of course, that first world title at stake, Littler remains calm. “Every night before I do play a game I’ve slept, I’ve slept well, whereas last year I wasn’t sleeping at all because I was just ready for the next game," he admitted. "But this year it’s a lot different. As soon as I knew back-to-back finals, it’s just chill out, reset the batteries and go again."
