"I need to show that now at the television tournaments" - Gerwyn Price looking to end three year wait for major glory

Not Luke Littler or Luke Humphries, but Gerwyn Price was the best player on the Players Championship circuit in 2025. 'The Iceman' played 21 of the 34 floor tournaments, and managed to win no less than four of them. Moreover, he also lost two finals.

With £103,000 in prize money, the Welshman finished at the top of the Players Championship Order of Merit. This final ranking paired him with the No. 64 ranked player, Max Hopp. "The fact that I'm going into the tournament as number one on the seedings list certainly gives me confidence," Price indicated in conversation with the PDC.

The former rugby player is certainly not having a bad season outside of floor tournaments either. Price regularly reached quarterfinals and semifinals at the majors, but at the same time he has been waiting for a title at a ranking major since late 2021. Price is also aware that it is time to start finding success on the major stages. "I've played well on the floor this season, but now I need to show that on the television tournaments. Hopefully that will succeed in Minehead."

Although Price made the final at the Players Championship Finals in 2019 and managed to reach the semifinals in 2020, his record at this event is pretty underwhelming otherwise. Four times Price has failed to get past the first round, and at the past three editions he never got past the second round.

"Against Max (Hopp, ed.) it will be another tough match. He has returned to the circuit this year, but is a great player. I'm definitely not going to underestimate him, but it's also definitely a match I should be able to get through," Price said.

The Players Championship Finals is scheduled from Friday, Nov. 21, through Sunday, Nov. 23. The event counts as the final tournament toward the World Darts Championship, which starts in December.
