In Dublin, the seventh night of
Premier League Darts was completed yesterday. The crowd got their money’s worth during a spectacular night of darts in which
Luke Littler once again showed why he is currently the undisputed world number one. In a match that swung both ways, the young Englishman clawed back from a seemingly hopeless 5–0 deficit to seal a memorable victory.
Littler
defeated Gerwyn Price 6–5 in the final of the seventh night of the Premier League Darts, having first recovered from a 5–0 deficit. Afterwards, Littler still sounded visibly taken aback by what he had just achieved. “Yeah, I mean, I don’t know. I took my chances. Obviously, I’ve seen the checkout percentage — I think Gez was on 26%, I was on 50%, so it’s OK overall.”
Efficiency makes the difference
Although the match was long dominated by his opponent
Gerwyn Price, Littler struck at the crucial moments. The stats told the story. While Price stalled around a 26 percent checkout rate, Littler posted an impressive 50 percent on his doubles. “When you’re 5–0 down, you forget about everything,” Littler explained. “Like I said to Wayne, I hit my first leg, gave it a little bit, hit a 180. Gez was on top, so I waved him goodbye because in my head I was finished.”
At 5–0 down, there seemed to be no trouble at all for Price. Littler even admitted he had mentally given up on the contest. “But obviously, Gez missed, and the rest is history.”
Playing with freedom as the key
Remarkably, it was that hopeless situation that helped Littler get back into the match. Without pressure, he started to throw with more freedom, which immediately paid off. “I think when you’re 5–0 down, you just forget about everything. You just throw with freedom — you’re not really bothered.”
The turning point came at 5–3. Price began to show small cracks in his game and produced a few weak openers. “When it got to 5–3, Gez started to drop a bit. I think he hit something like a 42 or a 59 start to a leg, and that’s where I started to come back at him. Yeah, I got him again.”

Clayton closed to within three points
The victory also marked his second nightly title of the campaign, earning crucial points in the chase for the top spots. In the standings, he has closed to within three points of leader Jonny Clayton.
Looking ahead to the rest of the season, this evening could prove a turning point. Littler himself remains level-headed about his success. “Yeah, definitely. Obviously, I picked up two points last week, and then I’ve come here and won it. But for myself, I always say: win that first game, get two points on the board, and anything extra is a bonus. But obviously, I’m chasing the nightly wins — and yeah, I’ve closed the gap on Johnny.”
