The
Luke Littler effect has worked in a myriad of different ways as darts continues to expand to be a global phenom and it is also felt in other ways in the UK with ITV attempting to cash in on a return for the popular gameshow Bullseye which will now get green lit for more episodes and spin-offs after it was
revived.
As per
The Sun, the gameshow which was previously hosted with great success by Jim Bowen with Tony Green of BDO fame as the caller, but was revived with Freddie Flintoff, former England cricketer and Top Gear presenter as host alongside
Richard Ashdown, former BDO/WDF MC and referee will return.
Filming on a follow-up series is set to start in Autumn this year with a view to it airing at the end of the year. But not only that but there will be a celebrity version also after a Bullseye for Soccer Aid special was a great success. So much so that they are now looking to bring a full series into play.
“The continued popularity of Bullseye means that as well as the new outing featuring members of the public playing the game, bosses are also looking at a celebrity version," an insider said as per Sun Sport.
Celebrity series incoming?
“The most recent experiment, a Bullseye for Soccer Aid special, seemed to go down well with viewers so they’re looking at expanding that — possibly with a full series.”
Reality TV star, Mark Wright as well as singer Olly Murs, Kym Marsh and her sister-in-law Claire Marsh and comedians Angela Barnes and Jon Richardson took part.
According to insiders, a number of British celebrities have already expressed interest in taking part in a celebrity series as a result. The combination of nostalgia, entertainment and the opportunity to raise money for charity has made the concept particularly appealing. Many potential contestants grew up watching the original Bullseye, which was a staple of British television during the 1980s and 1990s.
Luke Humphries has appeared on the show.
The format was simple but effective: amateur darts players teamed up with a quiz partner and attempted to win prizes through a combination of trivia questions and darts challenges and it also had a sense of irony as they would often win prizes that in this day and age no-one would want or at the time they wouldn't have use for like a speedboat.
In the revived version too, many top pros such as Littler,
Luke Humphries,
Fallon Sherrock among others have got involved and take part in challenges on the oche. So no doubt more work coming for the big names too.
