Luke Littler set for early retirement if he doesn't complete untouchable feat: "If I don't win 16 in a row? I'll stick around another 10 years"

Luke Littler was truly special again as he won 11-8 over Nathan Aspinall at the 2026 World Matchplay to reach the Quarter-Finals where he faces Josh Rock.

Littler spoke to the media afterwards speaking to the media including DartsNews.com about his nine-dart finish, 113 average, Phil Taylor and Minehead.
"It was a very good game to be involved in. Nathan produced another unbelievable performance. Like all of us players know, he'll never back off. He's always a fighter and always right there behind you," said Littler post match to the media including DartsNews.com.
"I just knew that 170 finish was going. I had it in my head that if I hit two single 20s I'd just set it up, but because I hit the treble I had to go for double five. Even then, I still knew it was going."
Asked if it could be the toughest test that he gets during the tournament. He said he has to see but now he will face Josh Rock and not Stephen Bunting in the next round. But Littler said anyway that he knew he'd be in for a good tie in that case.
"It could be. We'll just have to find out on Thursday and see if Josh Rock or Stephen Bunting can push me."
"If Josh wins, I know I'm in for another great game because, like I said after his opening match, nobody wants it more than him. I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on that one."

Now he has his sights firmly set on the record average and blazing a trail setting new standards every time he gets on the oche. "I just want to produce my best darts every time I play. I think I did that again tonight. I think I was only one point away from the highest average, around 114.
"That record is there to be broken, so hopefully I can produce another performance like that on Thursday. I'm just very happy."

He also hit a nine-dart finish and nearly hit another and he was gutted in reality that he missed the chance to hit two in a game.

"It felt good. Everyone keeps asking me how I do it, but I honestly don't know. It was the very first leg of the game and then I wired the bull for another one. That was gutting because I thought I might hit two in the same match. I just had to regroup and come back on Thursday."
"I was practising at home today and played a first-to-11 against the dartboard and won 11-9. I actually missed double 15 during that and my sister's boyfriend just said, "You're crap, you're out soon."

Becoming the greatest ever has often been bandied around with Littler and he said that if he won that much realistically he'd be gone anyway and wonders if he will play for that long to do so anyway.
"That talk has been around ever since I first came onto the scene. People have always asked whether I'll be the next Phil Taylor. I've always said unless I win 16 World Championships and everything else that Phil has won, then I can't say I'm the greatest.

"Will I still be around in 16 years? Who knows? If I win 16 World Championships in a row, I'm gone. If I don't win 16 in a row? I'll stick around another 10 years. I'm very happy at the minute. I've picked up so much silverware already and I've nearly completed every major.
"The main goal when I came onto the tour was simply to win one of every major. After that, the aim is to double it, triple it and keep going."
Littler has been thrown in line to potentially try and hold all titles at once. To do that, he would have to play the ProTours to qualify for Minehead, but he sees it as a catch 22 in that he'd get criticised for not bothering but also if he doesn't qualify.
"There are two ways people will look at it. I'll either get criticised for not playing the Pro Tours or I'll get criticised if I don't qualify. If I pick up the trophy, who knows what I'll do? I think there are only four Players Championship events left in Leicester and I'm not going to Den Bosch for the others.

"So it'll be do or die, but we can't think that far ahead yet. Right now I'm just focused on Thursday."

With Carl Sneyd taking care of Daryl Gurney, he would have had to beat Andy Boulton before facing the winner of Sneyd vs Mensur Suljović for a Grand Slam spot. Since he could instead have been drawn against the likes of Cristo Reyes, Dirk van Duijvenbode and Stephen Bunting, I think once Gurney was out of the picture he would have been favourite to win his board, and it seems like a massive missed opportunity to put 5 grand on his ranking and seal another major TV appearance ahead of the Worlds. - She is a professional. If darts is her income, she is a professional. Same as Adrian Lewis, Martin Adams. A tour card just means someone can play on the PDC tour. You could even make a case that Clayton wasn't a professional (until recently I believe) because he had employment elsewhere.BandB04-11-2026

- I'm quite a jaded person all things considered, but to be honest I found Beat Luke Littler to be pretty entertaining. It certainly wasn't seamless, which is to be expected given the lack of precedence, but I actually think the pacing was pretty good, the production was impressive, and there was a good sense of humour and levity to it. I think it was a very ambitious undertaking but one that, for the most part, paid off. I liked the system with the four pots and I think it added to the drama and intrigue. I enjoyed seeing the diverse range of entrants and learning about their backstories. I think the interactivity was pretty clever and well-integrated. The panel was a little incoherent at times; Lee Mack shone however, and his improvisational skills were appreciated during some more awkward interstitial moments. As far as the darts is concerned, it was a shame that the format didn't allow Littler to get into full flow. You obviously don't want him to steamroll everyone but you want to feel like you're getting the full Littler package rather than seeing him struggling to get out of first gear. I will say that his leg against Jayden Walker was very impressive, but it was mostly downhill from there. The attraction revolves around Littler being this untouchable, indomitable force, yet the format doesn't really allow him to fulfil that characterisation. As for Fallon Sherrock, she was mightily impressive and deserved the victory. It is a testament to her unshakeable character that she was able to bang in a 14-darter under such mind-bending pressure. Everything that has been said about the misleading marketing is valid, though they were clear about their eligibility criteria and were able to offload the responsibility somewhat by bringing the viewers into the decision-making process in real time. What is clear though, is that Fallon played the game according to the rules, and she should not be criticised for that, much less abused. I will admit though that it is a kick in the teeth for those true amateurs who committed time and money to the course, and I would also question those who think pub players would have no chance, given that some of Littler's winning legs were dispatched in 7 visits to the board! The great thing about darts is that it isn't so much that amateurs cannot replicate the feats of brilliance pulled off by professionals of the sport, than it is that they simply cannot replicate the consistency of their output, something that this format almost entirely removes from the equation. It should also be noted that, financially, Fallon certainly stands to benefit much less in relative terms from the paycheque than would your average pub thrower, as I'm sure she nets a fair income from the lucrative exhibition circuit alone. What I do hope is that she might use this as an opportunity to really build up a head of steam heading into the new season, as it seems long overdue that she come through Q-School and really take it to the pros on a week-in week-out basis, but whatever she chooses to do, she has certainly achieved enough already for one if not several lifetimes, so who am I to dictate terms? To conclude though, I will state once again that I found Beat Luke Littler to be a pretty enjoyable evening of entertainment. I do feel for the contestants who never actually had the chance to try their luck against the world #1, although I suppose it comes with the format, but all which inevitably raises the question: will Netflix be tempted to do it all again next year? It's hard to say. Whether it would be financially viable, I can't weigh in there. One point I have been making though, and which I touched on earlier, is that the entire concept relies on a public perception that Littler is more or less unbeatable, and that certainly hasn't been the case of late. If the execs had been trying to pitch the show in recent months while Littler has seemed vulnerable, rather than when he was mopping up almost every major title on the calendar, it would certainly be a tougher sell. We will have to see in about 6 months' time whether Littler can still reliably command perception as a near-unstoppable force in darts, and then we'll have a clearer idea about whether we should expect a second helping. Even as a one-off experiment though, and with all the controversy taken into account, I still don't think they disgraced themselves by any means, and that will probably be my lingering assessment of the event when all is said and done.Deduce635801-11-2026

But...shows the mockery when a professional players wins what was meant to be an amateur v Pro event, Littlers performance was poor, and what about the players who didn't get a game?
