For just the second time in his career, Callan Rydz has ensured a post-Christmas return to the Alexandra Palace. The 2022 quarter-finalist defeated Martin Schindler in straight sets on Sunday evening to reach the third round at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship.

In truth it was mainly an abomination on the doubles from Schindler that held the key to such a rampant win for Rydz as he moves into the Last 32. That's not to say the Englishman is complaining though, as moves on to face Dimitri van den Bergh after Christmas.

"It means a lot. I mean I've just found out he'd beat us 12 times in a row! But listen, he can beat me another 50 times next year, this is the main one," the 'Riot' reflects post-match referencing his horrific record against Schindler prior to Sunday night's meeting. "I'm not one that usually gives it big, but that meant a lot to me."

After starring in the opening round with a 107 average, Rydz wasn't quite as electric against Schindler. Averaging just over 91 with 3 maximums though, the Englishman still had too much for the German number one. "I think the first set I should have won easier than I did, I know he missed the nine and I was rooting for it to go in, but when I won that leg I thought: 'Yes this could happen today'," he explains. "I've got goosebumps from hearing my name being chanted. It was just amazing. Playing here, winning games here, is the main one so yeah, it felt really good."

Although his ability has never been in question, Rydz has struggled with the mental side of the game in the past. Of late though, and especially at this tournament, the 26-year-old is trying to maintain a positive outlook regardless of the situation. "Like I've said, if everything back home is positive, you know clear mind, I can do damage here," he says. "I know if my game turns up I can mix it with anyone. So listen, once I come back after Christmas, if I don't have too many pigs and blankets I should be all right!"
