Robert Owen has faced a unique situation all the way through this year's PDC World Darts Championship as he seemed to secure his Tour Card then a certain Jeffrey de Graaf winning potentially scuppered his plans.

But he stayed resolute to the task at hand and saw off Ricky Evans to finally seal it. He spoke afterwards emotionally about staying calm amid the pressure around him as well as joking that his daughter who wore pink ear defenders would get them signed by Gerwyn Price after the infamous incident against Gabriel Clemens.

"It's massive for me and my family. I've scrapped for the last two years. My first year wasn't the best but this year I've been pretty good since the birth of my third child probably. As you can see in the crowd today with her pink ear defenders on, she's eight months old. I've done myself and my family proud and I'm still here," said Owen.

"It's a big relief. 97.5% and all the results went against me, that's tough to take. That added pressure but I tried not to keep that in my mind and just tried to keep on the game."

"I'm not a slow player but I'm not a rapidly quick player. I've played very slow players in the last two years, I don't want to name names but there was one from Germany which was very slow and it totally disrupted my game. But I'm happy."

He spoke about also facing Callan Rydz next up as well as the pressure that the whole Tour Card scenario put on him.

"I expect Callan to play the same as he has. There's no pressure on the game for both of us, we're just trying to do the best as we can for our families. There's no pressure, let's just play darts."

"Next year I'm defending hardly any money, I'm defending maybe £19,000. I'm in the third round of the UK Open straight away. That's a couple of ground coming off straight away but I'm confident of retaining and going up maybe a few ranks."

"It was my own doing from putting me in the situation I was but now I've got myself out of the situation. I'm relying on no results and that shows how mentally strong I've become and how my game has come on over the years."

He added about having his family here and what that does for him as well as a lucky omen from his Grand Slam semi-final.

"I'm going to get Gezzy to sign them later on just for the sake of it. But it was so nice. My mother and sister were there as well which is even more special really because they were there when I got to the semi-finals of the UK Open."
