Luke Humphries has crowned himself the winner of the
German Darts Grand Prix 2024. 'Cool Hand Luke' was far too strong for
Michael van Gerwen in a one-sided final 8-1.
For Humphries, it is his sixth title on the
European Tour, and his second at the German Darts Grand Prix. The Englishman also won the Euro Tour tournament in Munich earlier in 2022.
There really was no measure of Humphries in this tournament, who managed to throw an average of well over 100 in four of his five matches. Moreover, with an average of 112.66, Humphries had saved his best average of the tournament for last.
Earlier in the tournament the reigning world champion had already beaten Luke Woodhouse (6-3), Ryan Joyce (6-2), Danny Noppert (6-2) and Gerwyn Price (7-3). Moreover, against Joyce he had already recorded a average of 111.63.
Van Gerwen was able to win the first leg in the final, but after that there was no stopping him. With two 14-darters, Humphries went for it, before making it 5-1 via a 112 finish and two 11-darters.
A 14-darter then took Humphries to 6-1, before 'Cool Hand Luke' put the 7-1 on the scoreboard with a delightful 170 finish. Humphries then closed with a 16-darter for the title.
