In the perfect pre cursor to the upcoming defense of the World Cup of Darts he has with Simon Whitlock, Damon Heta took the 7th PDC title at Players Championship 14 in Hildesheim on Tuesday.
“I feel like I just played the player all day,”says Heta who overcame the likes of Owen Roelofs, Vladimir Andersen, Martijn Kleermaker, Bradley Brooks, Mickey Mansell and Christian Kist before taking a convincing victory over Luke Woodhouse in the final.
“I’ve made a lot of semi-finals this year, whether it’s on the ProTour or European Tour, and now I’ve finally got the win this year," Heta continued in his post-match interview. “To get over that line today is a weight off my shoulders. It might not have been spectacular, but the win is the most important thing at the end of the day.”
Heta will now be hoping he can carry this winning form into the World Cup of Darts. A tournament where he and Australian partner, Simon Whitlock made history last year with their win. “It probably gives Simon a bit of confidence that he can count on me,” Heta smiles.
“I know that he’s been playing well this year too, and I can always count on him because he always steps up for the World Cup," he adds. “I’m absolutely looking forward to it. Hopefully we can back it up, but we’ll have to do it the hard way!”
