For Gerwyn Price, the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship has come to an end in disappointment. The 39-year-old Welshman spurned a 2-0 lead and eventually dropped to a 5-3 defeat against Chris Dobey in the quarter-finals at the Alexandra Palace.

Price did not have a great 2024 and could not start the new year on a positive note. As mentioned, in his quarter-final against Dobey, he got off to an excellent start by winning the first two sets, but then had to watch his English opponent reel off the next four to take a 4-2 lead. Price did win the seventh set, but sadly for the Welshman, it did not spark a comeback as 'Hollywood' secured his place in the World Championship semi-finals for the first time in his career.

As it turns out though, a medical excuse can be used as a potential excuse for Price. For example, he has been struggling with ear issues for some time. "It feels like I have been in a swimming pool of water. It’s frustrating. I pop my ears and it feels fine. It’s a nightmare, It's doing my head in," he told the Daily Record. "I’ve been taking antibiotics for a week and they are not working. It feels like I have been in a swimming pool of water. It’s frustrating. I pop my ears and it feels fine. Two minutes later, I have to do it again. It’s hard work. I have had this problem for the last six, seven, eight years, I am used to it now."

Price therefore urgently needs to make an appointment with the doctor, although his busy darting career doesn't make that easy. "I’m supposed to see an Ear, Throat and Nose specialist, but it’s too busy, isn’t it?" Price says. "I miss so many appointments with the ENT. You end up having a tournament here and there. I end up playing darts.”

Because of his elimination, Price remains in ninth place in the PDC Order of Merit, with only Dobey able to pass him this World Championship. It remains to be seen whether the Welshman will be invited to the Premier League Darts.
