Luke Littler made lightwork of Rob Cross as he took down his rival 6-0 with a 112.73 average to kick off his
Players Championship Finals campaign in some style.
Littler was glad to produce such a display days after winning the Grand Slam of Darts and as many big names faltered and fell by the wayside, he was one who delivered amid the pressure of being one of the top seeds. A feeling he has had to get used to and one he is relishing.
"It's always good to start any major or any competition well. Obviously 6-0, 112 average and I like to look at the double percentage which is 60% which I'm happy with. But yeah just focus on tomorrow night (Saturday) now," said Littler to Online Darts.
He was also asked if the players then as a result stand up and take notice of sorts of what he is doing but he said he isn't bothered about that and is more bothered about the statement he sets.
"The players certainly don't show it but that first game of the Grand Slam I set a real statement saying I'm here to win and I'm just very happy to get off the mark again in Round One. Winning any tournament coming into the next is always a big thing. Obviously winning the Grand Slam. My performances are good and my confidence is very high."
He is now favourite for the World title by a mile and he said that it is obviously what people think. Also he was quizzed about the comparisons to Phil Taylor and his records, albeit a long way off breaking them and he said it is a long way away.
"It's what the people think. Obviously recent performances show I should be favourite but I've just got to focus on the darts.
"It's crazy to think about trying to beat Phil Taylor's records of 16 World titles, the World Matchplay's he has won as well. But I guess I'll just have to keep on going for years and years."
