Gerwyn Price caused a stir at the PDC World Darts Championship last year. In his quarterfinal against Gabriel Clemens, he suddenly entered the stage at a 3-1 deficit with ear defenders on.
Price was loudly booed by the Alexandra Palace crowd during the first part of that match. After the break at a 3-1 deficit, he decided to try and block out the boo boys, taking to the stage with the ear defenders. “It's something I would do again," Price admits. "It shouldn't happen on that stage, but I did what I did and I can't do it again because they are banned now."
Still, Price will never again be allowed to repeat the ear defender incident. "The PDC said no more headphones. I actually want to do a walk-on wearing them and a hi-viz, then take them off to play, but the PDC wouldn't know which way it would go."

"Don't get me wrong, I don't regret it," continued the 38-year-old Welshman. "Footballers lead out mascots with autism wearing headphones (as a gesture of solidarity), and I had so many messages off parents with autistic kids who absolutely loved it. There were obviously more negatives than positives, but if there were one or two positives to come out of it, happy days."
Upon seeing Price return to the stage with his new head gear, the crowd began to boo even louder. "I would do exactly the same thing again, but did it block out the crowd? No – if anything, it was 10 times worse. But I was just trying to prove a point.”
Some prominent figures in the dart world were less pleased with Price's action. John Lowe, a three-time world champion, accused him of turning the tournament into a circus. In turn, Wayne Mardle, who once played a UK Open with a towel on his head, blamed Price for being "weak."
