Jeffrey de Graaf looks back satisfied after World Darts Championship exit: ''The top-10 in the world then just brings a little extra''

Another shock did not materialize for Jeffrey de Graaf at the World Darts Championship. After victories over Ritchie Edhouse (3-2) and Jose de Sousa (3-1), he lost 4-2 to Rob Cross in the third round.

De Graaf played well against the former world champion, but his scoring was just not consistent enough to really shake Cross. With an average of 91 his game was ten points below the average of his English opponent.

Despite the defeat, De Graaf could still look back with satisfaction on his display play against Cross. ''In itself I am satisfied with how I played,'' he told the Viaplay camera. ''It is a bit the level I normally throw and the top-10 of the world just brings a little extra. He also threw a lot better than he did in his first match.''

De Graaf lost it mostly in the early stages of the match, falling behind 0-2. Afterwards, De Graaf reached a higher level, but it was not enough to turn the deficit around. ''I felt myself throwing better and better, but I did that in every game. I always have to get into it. It would be nice if I could do that from the start. But that didn't happen now.''

In the end, however, the proud feeling of reaching the third round at the World Darts Championship prevailed. De Graaf has played six World Championships in the past, but never previously managed a victory there.

''Obviously, I can look back on the tournament with pride. I already achieved a personal victory by winning the first round,'' De Graaf concluded. ''Once you are there you always want more, but I also know very well that they (Cross, ed.) are not in the top-10 of the world for nothing.''
