Joe Hunt won the sixteenth tournament of the PDC Challenge Tour 2025 on Friday afternoon. A fine success for the Crystal Palace soccer club supporter, who is only in his first season on the Challenge Tour.
Hunt struggled past the first two rounds by defeating both Michael Barnard and Dmitriy Zhukov 5-4. That was followed by a 5-3 win over Trevor Burkhill for a spot in the last 32.
The Londoner then recorded two big victories by dealing with David Evans (5-1) and Ultan McDyer (5-1). In the quarter-finals, Hunt won 5-3 over Scott Campbell, before also overcoming Ashley Coleman 5-4.
In the final he faced Derek Maclean, who had qualified for the final by knocking out Patrick Quinn (5-2), Sam Spivey (5-4), Jamie Atkins (5-1), Jarred Cole (5-4), Charlie Manby (5-3) and Tommy Lishman (5-1) in succession.
Hunt grabbed a 2-0 lead in the final by throwing a 16-darter and a 19-darter in the first two legs. He failed to make it 3-0, however, and then saw Maclean take four legs in a row. Via a 17-darter and a stunning 147 finish, the Scot came back to 2-2 before taking the lead with a 19-darter and a 14-darter.
In the seventh leg, Maclean was allowed to dock for the win, but missed a full hand of matchdarts. Hunt hit the double 8 to come back to 3-4, before again taking advantage of missed match darts from his Scottish opponent in the eighth leg. Then in the leg-decider, Hunt took the title via a 116 finish while Maclean was waiting on double 16.
The Dutch played only a minor role during the sixteenth Challenge Tour tournament of the season. Jamai van den Herik, Jeffrey de Zwaan, Levy Frauenfelder, Alexander Merkx and Ruben Mesters all managed to reach the last 32, but they were also all eliminated in this round.
The Challenge Tour circuit is open to players who participated in the Q-School but did not win a Tour Card. Through the Challenge Tour, the highest ranked players can gain entry to the Players Championship tournaments as alternates. The top two players at the end of the season receive a PDC Tour Card and may compete in the World Darts Championship.

- Congratulations Zehra, an excellent performance, 3-0 was harsh on Rebecca, she played well and actually won a decent trophy better than what Zehra won. I think it is extremely poor and insulting that the girls prize money is half of what the boys win. At that level it should be equal, girls wanting to take up darts will see the injustice of winnings and could think twice about taking up the sport. Ultimately, winning is the only thing that matters, but I would be vocal about prize money if the female equivalent was double the amount.richieburnettrocks08-12-2025
- Having been at Lakeside all week, I am glad it's over. It is not the same and the atmosphere is completely flat. Ultimately, I think they should reduce the format for the men, just make it 32 not 64. It's very long winded and completely rushed and compacted towards the last few days. Mitchell is an excellent player but had to play a 6 set boys final just hours before his 9 set mens final. If the whole competition was spread out he would have not been forced to play 2 major finals in an afternoon, it is ridiculous and Sophie McKinlay had the same situation last year.richieburnettrocks08-12-2025

- Sophie v Paige warranted a final and deserved a longer format, despite the completely shambolic start to the match regarding the scoring which I think unnerved both players, it was an excellent game. Both are outstanding players with great futures in darts. It was a shame such talented players had to meet so early and that Paige is out, she is brilliant and blitzed Sophie in that first set.
