Jonny Clayton has done superbly all week considering the family problems currently ongoing and he could yet lift the Phil Taylor Trophy tomorrow with some
World Matchplay magic to down Luke Humphries.
Many felt Clayton had been slightly disrespected due to Luke Humphries being favourite despite 'The Ferret' being the only multiple major winner left but he showed his class in a marathon clash sealing it 17-15 with a 99 average and 60% on the doubles.
Clayton v Aspinall for the title on Sunday, who comes out on top?
Clayton edged into a 4-3 lead early on but Humphries turned the tide pinning a 100 checkout to go 5-4 up with a break of throw with two legs on the spin.
A two leg cushion was opened up at 6-4 and he continued to build the lead at 8-5 and 9-7 despite Clayton pinching back-to-back legs.
He went 10-7 and 11-9 up from there Humphries but Clayton hauled himself back to parity at 12-12 before continuing his spell of dominance to hit the front at 13-12.
Both exchanged legs from there but Clayton missed darts at 100 to go one away from the final and Humphries pinned a skin saver before hitting his 10th 180 as he looked to break Clayton's throw.
But Clayton hit 65 on double 18 to go one away from the win himself. Humphries missed the big number on 118 and Clayton had one dart at 80 sealing the win on double 20.
