The eleventh
Players Championship event of the season ended in triumph for Cameron Menzies, as the Scotsman secured victory in Leicester with an 8-3 win over fellow countryman Peter Wright in the final. It marks Menzies' first ranking title of the year, having previously fallen short in two earlier finals.
However, the highest average of Players Championship 11 was not posted by the eventual winner. That honour went to
Josh Rock, who produced a sensational 119.04 average in a 6-2 win over Ritchie Edhouse in the last 16. Rock’s remarkable performance wasn’t enough to carry him further, as he lost 6-5 to Peter Wright in the following round.
Bradley Brooks recorded the second-highest average of the day. The 25-year-old Englishman impressed in his opening round match with a 6-2 victory over Scotland’s Greg Ritchie, posting a 114.38 average. Brooks’ run ended in the last 32, where he was beaten 6-1 by Germany’s Max Hopp.
Completing the top three was
Gary Anderson. ‘The Flying Scotsman’ averaged 109.93 in a dominant 6-2 quarter-final win over Damon Heta. The 54-year-old was eventually stopped in the semi-finals, losing 7-5 to his fellow Scot Peter Wright.
Just outside the top three, Dirk van Duijvenbode was the highest-ranked Dutchman, finishing fifth on the average chart. ‘Aubergenius’ opened his campaign with a 6-3 victory over Belgian Kim Huybrechts, registering an impressive 106.36 average. The 32-year-old Dutchman made it to the last 32, where he was edged out 6-4 by compatriot Niels Zonneveld.
