Daniel Larsson upset Jan Dekker as the Swede recorded a 6-2 victory over the former BDO semi-finalist.
Neither man managed a 180 as averages remained at the low 90's, Larsson's 6/11 on the doubles setting this one apart. Dekker managing just 2/5.
The match started competitively, although Larsson did break to lead 3-1. Dekker held to trail 3-2, but couldn't take any more legs. Larsson winning three in a row for the match. His reward; a second round meeting with Simon Whitlock.
Rene Eidams overcame extreme double trouble to beat Englishman Ricky Williams. Combined the pairs finishing stats equated to less then 40% in a game that wont live long in the memory.
The Cube dominated proceedings in the scoring department, Williams only really getting a look in once his opponent had missed darts at a double. Eidams will have to step it up if he is to go further at the German Darts Open. He faces Daryl Gurney in round two.
Earlier on Maik Kuivenhoven got the better of Tobias Mueller in the battle of the debutants. The German was visibly struggling in his first appearance in front of the cameras, as Dutchman Kuivenhoven averaged a comfortable 90 in his victory.
Kuivenhoven reeled off the opening five egs before Mueller got his consolation leg, Pinning his 8th attempt at a double. The Dutchman closed out the match in leg seven, and will now face compatriot Jelle Klaasen in the second round.
